Satanpur hill is located in the Chas block of Bokaro district. There is a building on top of this mountain called Semaphore Tower, it was built by the British East India Company about 200 years ago.

These semaphore towers served to transmit messages over large distances. This was the British telegram communication system. It is a method of sending or conveying information in which objects visible to the eye are used. This visual object is mounted on a height (like on top of a tower). The information was known by the condition of the object.

Situated on the top of Satanpur hill this two storied semaphore tower is of great historical importance. This tower built by the British is an architectural heritage, which reflects the British era. These towers were built in a straight line from Fort William in Kolkata to Chunar. The distance of Chunar from Kolkata is approximately 694 kilometres. According to the research, about 45 towers were built in a straight line, with each tower spaced between 9.5 and 13 miles from the next. On a clear day, messages could reach Chunar from Fort William in Kolkata in just 50 minutes, thanks to these towers.

The British built two-storey towers (semaphore towers) on top of the hills, while on the plain the minarets were four storeys high. There were windows on both sides of each tower. Two of them were equipped with binoculars. Using a telescope, he would read the signal from the adjacent tower and transmit it to the other tower. These towers were built around 1813.
