Durga Pahar: A confluence of religious faith and natural beauty
An important religious site on the tourist map of Jharkhand
Situated in the Durgapur Panchayat of the area of Kasmar block, Durga Pahari stands not only with natural beauty but also with many things of historical events related to religious and social beliefs. According to the belief of the people, there was once a fort of a king named Durga Prasad Dev on the foothills of this hill. At the bottom was the king’s palace, which remains only a ruin. There is a small pond there. There is a small pond nearby. Which is known as Rani Pokhar.
The historical significance: –
Durga Prasad Dev was killed in a battle with Raja Dalel Singh of Ramgarh. In this war, Durga Prasad was killed along with his entire family. The only remaining queen also later committed sati by jumping into the Khajo river near Madhukarpur. Today this place is known as Ranidaha.
Religious Beliefs:
Along with these historical events, this hill also has religious significance. When the wish is fulfilled, goat, chicken and buffalo are sacrificed here. Earlier, this puja used to be performed on the hill. Now the stone lying under the hill is worshipped. Prayers are being offered at two different places. The Way to Durga Hill.
There are mainly two ways to reach this mountain. One can reach this hill by taking the main road from Kasmar block headquarters via Manzura, Rangamati and Lalmatia and the other from Petarwar via Ormo, Chandipur, Madhukarpur. Apart from this, people from Purulia, Jhalda, etc. of West Bengal also reach this hill through Khairachatar, Bagda, Puranibagyari.
The right time to arrive
The best time to visit Durga Pahar is between October and March. During this time the weather remains cool and pleasant, which is ideal for religious worship and enjoying natural beauty.
